Berry-Banana Smoothie

BerrySmoothieLevelIf you are looking for a great way to start the day, there’s nothing better than a loud blender chopping its way through frozen fruit.  I have a huge bag of frozen blackberries blueberries and raspberries from Costco in my freezer, so I threw a cup of it into my blender with a banana and woke up all the neighbors!  The key to making this smoothie work is adding some water into the blender (about 1/8-1/4 cup) until the consistency is as desired.  It is wonderfully sweet and tart, almost like a sorbet.

Sautéed Vegetables with Smoked Turkey

TurkeyStirWhen it comes to healthy and simple, it’s hard to beat this great dish I made last night.  I was surprised by how little effort was necessary to make this fabulous dish.  While white rice was cooking in my rice cooker, I sautéed Red Onion, Green Bell Pepper, and Sliced mushrooms in a bit of olive oil and added in some sliced smoked turkey that was lying in the fridge.  The turkey and vegetables were so flavorful by themselves that I didn’t even add any spices!  If I make this again, I will try to incorporate the rice a bit more by adding into the pot with everything else as opposed to serving it on the side.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Red Onion, Chopped
  • 1 Bell Pepper, sliced without the core and seeds
  • 3 ounces of sliced mushrooms
  • 1 Tablespoon of olive oil
  • 6 slices of smoked Turkey, cut into squares
  • 1 cup (uncooked) of white rice

Cold Weather Running

I took up running about three years ago, and have typically been a fair-weather jogger. I’d run outdoors – and more specifically, NYC’s phenomenal Greenway along the Hudson River – but only between the months of March and November. During the winter months, I’d only run in weather above forty degrees, or otherwise hit the treadmill at my college gym. However, I find running on a treadmill tedious and occasionally stomach-twisting, and much prefer the outdoors, whenever possible. This year, I decided to venture outside during the winter months, and  managed to squeeze out a few runs in 10-20 degree weather. Here are a few items I’ve found indispensable:

Out and About in LA

Hollywood

My wife and I recently returned from a jaunt to sunny Los Angeles. We were fortunate enough to be able to do a great deal in a six-day sweep: the Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, the Hollywood sign, Getty Villa, Warner Brothers Studios, the Grove, LACMA, La Brea Tar Pits, Hollywood Boulevard and about seven different Coffee Bean and Tea Leafs. We hitched an occasional ride with relatives, but the majority of our travel (including rides to and from our hometown NY airports) were on Uber – the smartphone-based, on-demand car service. Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup for a Cold and Rainy Day

ImageThe other day, it was quite miserable outside, perfect for a bowl of hearty chicken noodle soup.  Well, technically it was a chicken stock but I’ll get into that later.  Here is my go-to chicken soup recipe.

Notably, I used a red onion in this because that was what I had on hand and it performed quite well.  Also, I tend to just use whatever spices that are in reach, and this changes every time I make it.

iMessage Not Delivered

Apple did a lot right on the software front in 2013 – mostly in the form of iOS 7 on mobile and OSX 10.9 on desktops. And for better or worse, it continued the debatable trend of migrating iOS features to OS X. These changes – Notification Center, Dashboard, iMessage, iBooks, Airdrop, among others – fall into two categories: they either supplant existing third party features (Growl, Google Notifier, or the Kindle app), or supplement your desktop with an app that previously only existed on your phone. The logic from Apple’s point of view is clear: Continue reading “iMessage Not Delivered”
