During the holiday season Chinese food can be quite popular, but have you ever wondered what goes into those tasty dishes from the store? The best way to figure it out is to make some yourself!
I saw this great video recipe for General Tso’s chicken and had to try it out. The best part about making food yourself is that you can tweak the taste to your own preferences: While David might prefer it super spicy, I went for a sweeter version and downplayed the salty soy sauce. Because of that, it came out almost like orange chicken and was quite tasty.
There are basically 2 major steps: making fried bits of chicken and making the sauce. Nicko mentions that it is super hard to not eat the chicken nuggets while they are hot out of the oil. I solved this problem by making way more chicken than I needed, a win-win.

I had almost all of the ingredients in my kitchen except for hoisin sauce, so i made it from scratch with this recipe. I also subbed out the chilies and the scallions for some sliced bell peppers. I could definitely see doing a vegan version of this for a future post, stay tuned and try this recipe out!
