The Times ran an article yesterday, speculating that Amazon may be looking to open more brick-and-mortar bookstores, to complement the one it built a few months ago:
The Internet retailer plans to open more brick-and-mortar bookstores following the unveiling last year of one such location here in its hometown, according to a person briefed on the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss confidential plans.
It’s clear that, as L2, a research firm has pointed out, omnichannel seems to be the way to go. Five years ago, show-rooming was supposed to spell the end of brick-and-mortar retail, but instead, retail stores have become valuable distribution centers in the race to provide faster delivery. Firms that began as online-only have even started to open physical branches – Warby Parker and Bonobos come to mind. Check out the I-told-you-so video below.
