Google made their foray into the cloud with Drive. Of all the potential naming options – ‘box, cloud, disk, attic, drive – it’s interesting that Google chose the one that appears right before Dropbox, their competitor, in your smartphone menu. Just saying…
I see your point but I do know that the term “google drive” has been around for quite a while, I vaguely remember some third party schemes from years ago (also coined google drive) to use gmail as storage space, but it was hacked together pretty halfheartedly….Also it was a term floated around by google itself around 2006 (see http://www.zdnet.com/blog/google/google-gdrive-is-not-a-rumor/121) when dropbox wasn’t even launched till 2008.
