Here at Ben & David, we’re die hard Stones fans and we always make sure to keep tabs on whatever Mick & Co are up to. But this summer is shaping up to be the July (okay, fine, August) of Jagger, with two songs released within weeks of each other, either performed by or riffing on our favorite frontman. First up is Maroon 5’s clever but imperfect “Moves Like Jagger“, a fun, catchy number that’s bound for radio replay a few million times. It’s a cute song, but lacks the real verbal acuity and choral completeness that would otherwise make it exceptional. Christina Aguilera’s cameo would be enjoyable if not for the fact that her lines are shameless, lacking in any of the depth or meaning at which the Stones excel. For an actual collaboration between Mick and Christina, check out a 2006 rendition of “Live with Me” at the Beacon.
Next on the docket is the reggae-rock fusion “Miracle Worker” by supergroup Super Heavy that stars Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, AR Rahman (of Slumdog Millionaire fame), Damien Marley (son of Bob), and, of course, Mick. It’s an enjoyable song – check it out.
